Ingredients

For The Cake

  • 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour Sifted
  • ½ Tsp Salt
  • 4 Tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ Tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1` Tsp Ceylon Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • Cups Sugar
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • Cups Milk

For The Spiced Butter Frosting

  • Cups Unsalted Butter
  • 5 Cups Icing Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Ceylon Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Tsp Nutmeg Powder

Instructions

For The Cake

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F / 190°C / Gas mark 5
  • Sift the flour, baking powder and salt
  • Mix the ground cloves, cinnamon powder and the shortening
  • Add sugar and beat gradually
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time
  • Add milk and flour
  • Beat for about 25 seconds
  • Transfer it into a greased tray
  • Bake for about 30 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean
  • Cool it for about 10 minutes and turn out onto a wire rack.

Spiced Buttercream Frosting

  • Beat the butter
  • Continue beating by adding the icing sugar little by little
  • Add the cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder
  • Beat on low speed
  • Continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy
  • Now apply the frosting on the cake.
